Kessel Natural Gas Compressor Buildings
-
The Marcellus Shale play is bringing about a lot of new and unique business opportunities for the Natural Gas Exploration, Production, Transmission and related service providers involved in this dynamic industry.
As part of the Marcellus Shale play, Kessel Construction has developed a cost effective and functional Gas Compressor Shelter.
The shelter has been designed and engineered by a local engineering firm working closely with Kessel for the final shelter product.
Unique Features
Removable Roof Sections
Our designs currently include innovative methods for incorporating features like removable roof panels for access to the compressor units and "bears den" type features for air intake and chillers.
Sound Proofing
Due to strong industry demand Kessel is working with sound proofing specialists to control the sound created by the compressors and related equipment.
The current approach to sound proofing these facilities will be to “guarantee” the sound control to the Owner’s specified decibel at a given location relative to the compressor site (property line of the compressor station or nearest occupied dwelling etc) if needed.
Due to the increased loads the sound proof roof and panel systems impose on the structure Kessel can provide a pre-engineered solution to accommodate the system.
About the Gas Compressor Shelter

Framed Shelter

Framed Shelter

Compressor
The units are typically utilized around "soft set" design compressor units. The shelter is built on a metal base frame which sits on a compacted gravel site and anchored to the ground utilizing unique metal and cable mechanical anchors.
One key and unique feature of the shelters is the capability to easily remove the roof panels and structural system allowing full access to the inside of the building and the compressor unit. This is an important feature when replacing or maintaining these units.
The buildings utilize heavy gauge tubular steel for their primary structural system and industry standard, ribbed metal wall panels with 20 year warranted finish and ribbed metal roof panels with 20 year “Galvalume” coating. These materials offer cost effective construction and low maintenance.
The typical size currently is 35- 60’ (W) x 45-450’ (L) x 18-30’ (H). Various options can be added by the owner such as:
- Sound control roof and wall panel design
- Removal roof panels
-
Wind driven turbine vents for the roof
- Louvers in the sidewalls or endwalls for ventilation
- Sliding doors
- Overhead Doors (chain hoist)
- Man Doors
